Guinness World Records on hand to verify the record to celebrate the first anniversary of the In the Night Garden Ride at CBeebies Land
DHX Brands, the consumer-products and brand-management arm of DHX Media, set a new Guinness World Records title today as In the Night Garden’s Igglepiggle, known by millions of children for his little red comfort blanket in the hit CBeebies’ series, unfurled the largest-ever polar fleece blanket.
The record-breaking attempt was organised to celebrate the first anniversary of the popular In the Night Garden ride at CBeebies Land, Alton Towers Resort.
Made by Dreamtex Ltd, which manufactures the In the Night Garden Home Textile Collection, the record-setting blanket measures in at 98.8m sq. A Guinness World Records adjudicator verified the new Guinness World Records title, presenting Igglepiggle with an official certificate to mark the achievement.
A special party to celebrate the anniversary of the ride will also be held at the resort later in the day, attended by families and familiar characters from the show.
The giant blanket has been lovingly made by Dreamtex as a recreation of Igglepiggle’s favourite possession using red fleece material, blue stitching and clear thread. With a normal children’s blanket measuring 120cm x 150cm, the blanket would be big enough to cover 56 standard children’s beds. It took the team just eight days to make the blanket, which weighs 20kg and required 70m of thread around the outside.
Victoria Bushell, VP Global Brand Management, DHX Media said: “We know that In the Night Garden is an integral part of little ones’ bedtime routines so we felt creating the world’s largest and brightest snuggly polar fleece blanket – as verified by Guinness World Records – was a fitting way to mark the first anniversary of the In the Night Garden ride at Alton Towers. The ride has been a huge success since it launched and has been visited by thousands of parents and children over the last 12 months.”
“We were delighted to be part of this Guinness World Records title attempt, it’s a little different to what we normally do,” says Anthony Duckworth, MD from Dreamtex. “It was a big challenge to make but great fun.”
The ride at Alton Towers Resort has proven to be a big hit at CBeebies Land since its launch last year. The ride sees families setting sail in real boats to take a leisurely cruise through a real Night Garden, with all the familiar characters on hand to provide some colourful fun including Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka and the Tombliboos.
